Heritage Speaker Series
The Heritage Speaker Series Collective has been formed to plan a series of heritage talks to tell the stories of our veterans and war efforts in Clarington, building on CLMA's Golden Tales oral history project. Through the continued sharing of stories, we commemorate and honour local Veterans, their immense dedication and sacrifice they made through war efforts that left a rich legacy of history in the Clarington community.
The Heritage Speaker Series Collective is comprised of individuals with a passion for local history and includes representatives from the following local organizations:
- Local historians
- Clarington Heritage Committee members
- Architectural Conservancy of Ontario – Clarington Branch
- Jury Lands Foundation members
- Newcastle Historical Society members
- Royal Canadian Legion Branch #178
CLMA is seeking volunteers to join the Collective (planning group) to plan the content for the speaker series.
The speaker series will run through the Summer and Fall of 2025 at Waverley Place.

Registration coming soon | Walk in's welcome, space pending
Join us for a special presentation by Judith Clapperton, author of Had They But Known Her. Judith will provide a reading and Q&A regarding her book about Olive Wilmot. Judith says “The book began as curiosity about an article in the NVDHS [Newcastle Village & District Historical Society[ newsletter about Olive Wilmot. It suggested she had been murdered by her lover in Newcastle in 1903. Meeting over time with her great-niece, Diana Grandfield, and years of research resulted in what I think is a close approximation of her life (and the truth). Her life was far more interesting than the details of her untimely death at the age of 39.”
