Educational Foundations: Picturing the Schoolhouses of Clarke Township

New Exhibition!

A new exhibition has opened at the Sarah Jane Williams Museum featuring art from the museum’s permanent collection. Educational Foundations: Picturing the Schoolhouses of Clarke Township features a series of pen and ink wash art works that focus on the various schoolhouses that used to exist in Clarke Township.

Local artist Maureen Remington was commissioned by the Clarke Museum in the late 1970s to create this schoolhouse series. Remington is remembered locally for her landscapes and architectural scenes capturing Clarington landmarks and places. The exhibit highlights the history of the Clarke area, the schoolhouse as well as details about Remington and her life and work.
