Orono Accessibility Project

Clarington Library, Museums & Archives is excited to announce that the Orono Library will be undergoing renovations to enhance public accessibility.

The Orono Accessibility Project will enhance public accessibility through renovating the Orono Library, with the installation of a fully accessible entrance and universal washroom. The upgrades will be accomplished by renovating the library’s current non-fiction room at the back of the house, which used to be the summer kitchen. In addition to the accessibility enhancements, the décor will be getting a fresh new look to modernize the space and honor the unique and beautiful heritage of the building.

Community donations complimenting the Victorian home’s beautiful heritage and décor are being invited. Members of the public can reach out to Heather Ridge, Curator and Heritage Services Manager, at hridge@cplma.ca or at (905) 623-2734 for more information. Monetary donations are also being accepted and greatly appreciated online or at any CLMA location.

The renovation process started on Tuesday, September 5, and is expected to take approximately three months. There may be intermittent noise disruptions or limited access to parts of the collection.

While every effort has been made to maintain current operating hours. We apologize for any inconvenience these temporary closures may cause and invite residents to visit our other locations in Bowmanville, Newcastle, and Courtice or access our services online.
