Sensory Support Kits

Developed by Autism Canada, these sensory kits contain an assortment of items which are designed to reduce stress and anxiety, stimulate learning, and provide comfort in unfamiliar environments.

Tactile and sensory items can be comforting to an autistic individual. They support their efforts to self-regulate and remain calm in an emotional or stressful situation. Offering sensory supports to those on the Autism Spectrum when they are experiencing stress can help them avoid a sensory meltdown or a shutdown.

Borrowing and Use

• Sensory Support Kits may be borrowed for 1-week loans;
• Holds and renewals are permitted, provided no one is on the hold list;
• In the case of loss or damages, the member's account will be billed. Inventory lists are included with each kit.
   

Returns

• Please do not return kits through the book drop. Please return to any Library branch service desk.

Each Sensory Support Kit includes:

• Library information sheet;
• Autism Canada booklet;
• Noise reducing ear covers;
• Fidget popper;
• Fidget spinner;
• Soft squeeze ball;
• Pop tube sensory toy;
• Liquid bubbler timer sensory toy;
• Tinted safety glasses; and
• Glasses case.
