Nature Talks

Presented with Brian Joyce, a Naturalist/Ornithologist. Brian has worked with many organizations as an Outdoor Educator for the Nonquon Outdoor Education Centre, Central Lake Ontario, and Cataraqui Conservation Authorities, and as a Park Naturalist for Bon Echo, Murphys Point, and Sandbanks Provincial Parks. He shares his experiences of the natural world in an educating and humorous way that engages and educates the public on the importance of protecting our natural environment.

Let’s Go! / haw êkwa! by Julie Flett

Let’s Go! is an extraordinary book that celebrates skateboarding, family, and community, from beloved Cree-Métis author, illustrator, and artist Julie Flett, a winner of the New York Times / New York Public Library Best Illustrated Children’s Book Award.

Every day, a little boy watches kids pass by on skateboards, and dreams of joining them. One day, his mother brings a surprise: her old skateboard, just for him! haw êkwa! Let’s go! Together, they practice on the sidewalk, at the park, in Auntie’s yard—everywhere. But when it comes time to try the skatepark, the skateboarders crash down like a waterfall. Can he find the confidence to join them?

Accessibility

The TD SRC is for children of all abilities, no matter how they read! Find SRC notebooks adapted for physical, visual, or learning disabilities on the national TD Summer Reading Club website, with SRC books in a variety of accessible formats, such as DAISY audio and braille.
