Celebrate Culture and Community at Clarington Library, Museums & Archives

September 5, 2025—Clarington Library, Museums & Archives is excited to host a full line-up of cultural programming this fall. From events commemorating the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, multilingual storytimes, and multicultural celebrations, long-time residents and newcomers alike will find something to enjoy and discover at their local CLMA location.

"Community and culture are at the heart of public libraries and museums," explains Monika Machacek, CEO of Clarington Library, Museums & Archives. "Engaging and supporting newcomers, growing our collections to reflect the languages spoken in Clarington today, and creating and maintaining spaces that are welcoming, compassionate, and inclusive are all commitments embedded in our Strategic Plan. We’re proud to reflect and celebrate the diversity of cultures, identities, and beliefs that make Clarington’s community so vibrant."

Walk Together Towards Reconciliation: Beading Orange Shirt Pins is being held in partnership with Bawaajigewin Aboriginal Circle on September 25, 6:30pm at the Courtice Library and October 2, 6:30pm at the Bowmanville Library. Diwali Celebration is at the Bowmanville Library on October 11, 10:30am, with Celebrate Clarington Culture: Islamic History Month at the Newcastle Library on October 19, 2pm and Islamic History Month Storytime at the Bowmanville Library on October 25, 10:30am. For newcomers, English Conversation Circles are being expanded, held in-person at Bowmanville Library on Monday evenings at 6:30pm, and online on Wednesday afternoons at 1:30pm. Multilingual storytimes have also been expanded, with all-ages storytimes offered in French, Hindi & Urdu, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish throughout the fall.

In addition to the full slate of programs and events, all CLMA library locations offer growing collections in different languages. Materials are currently available in Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, Farsi, French, Hindi, Polish, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil, Ukrainian, and Urdu. CLMA is also seeking to expand its collections to include Punjabi materials and children’s storytime kits in Arabic and Tamil.
